Important requirements for using IM+ for LCS
IM+ for LCS enables the most important LCS features on your mobile phone: authentication to LCS, presence support and text messaging. IM+ for LCS clients connect to LCS through our special "gate" server, which serves like a proxy between mobile phone and LCS. In a standard configuration, this gate is installed at SHAPE Services (contact us to find out more about custom gate installations).

Please review and check the following requirements to ensure that IM+ for LCS will work for you:

1. Make sure your mobile device has access to Internet.

For non-Blackberry devices: TCP ports 5333 and 5334 should not be blocked. If unsure, ask your mobile operator.

For BlackBerry: ports 80 and 443 should be open. If unsure, ask your BES administrator.

2. Make sure your LCS server complies with the following requirements:

  • You have Microsoft® LCS 2003 or 2005 server installed;
  • It should be available from the Internet directly or via Access Proxy on TCP ports 5060 and/or 5061;
  • If you are going to use TLS connection, your LCS server must have a certificate issued by a globally trusted authority, e.g. Verisign or Thawte;
  • LCS must have NTLM authentication enabled.

3. Download and install IM+ for LCS onto your mobile device.

4. Run IM+ for LCS and proceed to the settings (or options) dialog. Its look may vary on different plaftorms, but generally options have the following meaning:

  • UserID or Username - called "Sign-in name" in native Windows Messenger clients. Usually looks like user@example.com
  • Login name - called "User name" name in native Windows Messenger clients. May look like user@example.com or domain\username
  • Password - your password to LCS
  • Server or Host - IP address or domain name of your LCS server, e.g. 10.10.10.123 or lcs.example.com
  • Port - port of your LCS server. Unused in this version of IM+ for LCS, left for future compatibility. Currently port is determined automatically. Recommended value, if present - 5060.
  • Transport or LCS carrier, possible options TCP and TLS. Determines LCS connection type. TCP is non-secured standard connection, TLS uses encryption but requires special server setup, see 2. If unsure, use TCP.
  • Use SSL - On or Off. Determines whether client should use SSL (secure) connection to the LCS gate. Recommended value - On.

5. Try to connect. If something still goes wrong, please contact us by filling out our support form.
